About Me

My name is Sophia White, and I am a sommelier at The Goring Hotel. Transitioning into this role from being a freelance brand strategist was seamless for me, given my extensive background in the hospitality industry. I sought to work for an independent hotel steeped in history and family-owned, making The Goring Hotel a perfect fit.


The Goring Hotel is London’s last remaining family-owned luxury 5-star hotel, proudly granted a Royal Warrant Crest by The Queen. Its impeccably English boutique style and traditional charm make it an ideal place to build my career.

My Journey
Lover of Great Food & Wine

My journey to becoming a sommelier has been a unique and varied one. My career in the hospitality industry has included roles in sales and promotional activations for Coca-Cola and Nestlé, two of the largest FMCG confectionery and beverage brands. I have also organized and branded dinners and events at prestigious locations such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, the House of Lords, and The Shard.

As a freelancer, I worked on brand strategy projects for small businesses, helping companies define their brands and find their voices. Now, as a sommelier at The Goring Hotel, my varied experiences are finally converging in a meaningful way.

I have always been passionate about great food and wine. Tasting exquisite flavours, pairing food with wine, and learning about flavour combinations excite me. Working in the wine and food side of the industry allows me to be creative, and I find it both exciting and fun. My passion for food and wine, branding, and events has come together in this new chapter of my life.

Life offers us the chance to reinvent ourselves, and I am embracing this opportunity to bring together everything that makes me uniquely me. While I may not have all the answers, I am enjoying the journey and trust that God will provide a clear path for me.

Where did it begin?

In the bustling heart of London, amidst the laughter and camaraderie of friends, my journey into the world of wine began. Unlike some, my path to discovering the intricacies of hospitality and fine dining came later in life, but when it arrived, it ignited a passion within me that I couldn’t ignore.

For over 18 years, I’ve been drawn to the magnetic allure of serving and connecting with people. From managing events to orchestrating unforgettable dining experiences, I’ve worn many hats in the hospitality industry. It was during these moments, where glasses clinked and conversations flowed, that I witnessed the profound impact wine had on forging connections—be it between friends, business partners, or families.

Motivated by these experiences, I found myself irresistibly drawn to the world of wine. In January 2023, I took the leap into becoming a sommelier, eager to delve into the rich tapestry of aromas, flavours, and textures that each bottle held. With each swirl and sip, I embarked on a journey of discovery, fuelled by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a relentless curiosity.

As I immersed myself in the study of wine tasting, I became captivated by the intricate dance between wine and food. The way a perfectly paired wine could elevate the dining experience fascinated me, and I was determined to unravel the mysteries behind this art.
